Yuba City's fifth annual Pride in the Park festival runs Saturday, October 3 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Sam Brannan Park, and it's free and all-ages. Expect live entertainment, local vendors, community resources, and activities for kids, all organized by Tri-County Diversity. For a family new to the area, it's a warm introduction to how welcoming and inclusive this community really is.

The Monthly Craft Bags pick-up runs Tuesday, September 29 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Decoupage Pumpkins crafting happens Thursday, October 1 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, and the recurring Throwback Thursdays event is on the calendar for Friday, October 2 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Then on Sunday, October 4, the ITT office leads a family trip to the California Railroad Museum and downtown Sacramento from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, a lovely way to explore the capital alongside other Beale families. Pumpkin Patch Season Is Officially Here

Fall is officially family-outing weather. Bishop's Pumpkin Farm in nearby Wheatland, about 10 miles from the base, is in its 54th harvest season and open daily through November 15; this week's hours are 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM Friday and Saturday, and 9:00 AM to 8:30 PM Sunday, with corn mazes for every age, hay rides, pig races, a train ride, and plenty of pumpkins. Note that weekend parking fees apply starting this Saturday and Sunday, October 3 and 4. For the outdoorsy family, Collins Lake in Browns Valley, about 25 minutes away, offers fishing, boat and paddleboard rentals, a sandy beach, and Saturday-night movies under the stars on the beach. Closer to home, Ellis Lake in downtown Marysville has a gentle 1.2-mile paved loop that is perfect for strollers, and Eufay Wood Sr. Memorial Park in Plumas Lake offers playgrounds and covered picnic tables (the splash pad is closed for the season, so plan around the swings and grills).

VA rates this week. Thirty-year VA fixed rates are hovering around 6.8% to 7.0% depending on the lender, with the national average near 6.90% (about 6.99% APR) and some lenders advertising lower rates when you pay discount points. Rates move often, so locking when you're comfortable usually beats waiting for a perfect number.
A buyer-friendly market. In Yuba County the median sale price sits around $425,000 with homes going pending in roughly 24 days, while Plumas Lake's median runs closer to $533,000. The market has cooled toward buyer-friendly territory, which is good news for VA buyers using zero-down entitlement.
Enroll in school the easy way. Beale has no schools on the installation, so your kids attend the local public districts, and neither district closes its door mid-year. Both Yuba City Unified and Marysville Joint Unified register new students year-round through their online enrollment portals; start there, then visit your assigned school with your military registration form, immunization record, and physical exam paperwork to finish up. For anything tricky, including Exceptional Family Member Program questions, Beale's School Liaison Office at 530-634-3539 is your best ally.
Remember the TRICARE clock. You have 90 days from your address change to make eligible enrollment changes, so update your address and double-check dental coverage while the move is still fresh.
